Zen Cart™ Forum Code of Conduct

These are the terms of use that every member and guest of the Zen Cart™ Forum agree to adhere to. The Code of Conduct applies to all posts in the forums, via the Zen Cart™ Private Message system and any other communications originating from the Zen Cart™ website.

Communicating on message boards, via PM and email is different from face-to-face communication. Only the words are seen, not your facial expressions or tone of voice. Please pay careful attention to how you use your words.

Remember that the words you enter in a burst of passion or indignant anger will be there for you and everyone else to see (even in search engines), sometimes long after those intense feelings have passed. That's not meant to discourage spontaneity, but just a friendly reminder of the long-term existence and effects of what you post.

You may, from time to time, find yourself in disagreement with someone else's opinion. At times like these, please keep in mind it's safer and more polite to take issue with the comments rather than the person.

By posting on the Zen Cart™ Forums, using the Zen Cart™ Private Message system or sending an email from this website, you agree that you will not send any of the following:

  • Any communication that is intended to harass, belittle, humiliate, threaten or cause embarrassment to a fellow member.
  • Material that contains vulgar, obscene or indecent language or images.
  • Any communication that contains spam (multiple copies in one area or the same communication in multiple areas).
  • Material that defames, abuses or threatens others.
  • Statements that are bigoted, hateful or racially offensive.
  • Material that advocates illegal activity or discusses illegal activities with the intent to commit them.
  • Unauthorized copyrighted material.
  • Any form of active commercial solicitation.*

Statements, postings, Private Message's or other communications from the Zen Cart website, that violate the above terms will be deleted from the forums upon discovery. While we may attempt to notify you if we move or delete a post, we are under no obligation to do so. Depending on the nature of the violation, the Zen Cart™ Moderators, at their sole discretion may terminate a customer's account.

* Please see the Do's and Don'ts in this section for details.

Forum Do's and Don'ts

-Do a search for posts relevant to your problem.

-Do read the FAQ section to see if the answer is there.

-Do make the headline for your post relevant to your problem.

-Do let us know about your host and versions of php and mysql so that we can diagnose more easily.

-Do try and help where you can. The best way to learn a subject is to teach someone else.

-Don't bump your post. If you have not gotten an answer in a reasonable amount of time. Post a reply to your own existing post with more details of what you have and haven't done to attempt to cure the problem or find answers to your questions. Try to explain it in a different way if maybe it's unclear.

-Don't Private Message the Support Team trying to get their attention for your post. The whole idea of the forum is education and a problem solved privately benefits no one except you.

-Don't Cross Post. Cross Posting is posting the same message in multiple threads or posting links to threads on other boards. It's seen as spam.

-Don't use banners or other images in your signature line. You will be asked to remove them. -Don't hold independent contests or raffles

Before you post a question on the forum ...

#1- Before you post, check the FAQs, search the forum, read the Installation Manual and Administrators Guide for a possible answer to your problem.

#2- After you have done all of the above and are still having a problem, make your post to the forum in the appropriate category. Be sure to include enough information for one of us to help.

You should include:

a- The version of Zen Cart you are using and whether this is a new install or an upgrade.

b- A list of all the addons/contributions you have installed, and any kinds of customizations you've made to your site.

c- The type of server you are using and, if you are installing locally, the operating system

d- The version of PHP installed on the server

e- The version of MYSQL installed on the server

f- Details of exactly what you were doing when your problem occurred.g- Details of anything you have done to fix the problem

h- Any other details that might be important, i.e. the port number

i- If your problem is visual in nature, try switching your template back to "Classic" temporarily and see if the problem persists. Include the results of this observation in your post.

#3- Only post once (not multiple times on the same issue) and then be patient. We are all volunteers, we all live in different time zones, we all have lives, and the expert you need at that moment may just not be available.

If you haven't received an answer in a reasonable amount of time you may reply to your own post WITH MORE information. DO NOT post "Well?" or "Can someone please help". That is considered bumping and you will probably get yelled at.

Duplicate posts are subject to being locked or deleted, as they simply bring confusion to those helping or others reading/searching for information later, and are seen as spam-like.

How do I find what posts I've made?

Click on the "Quick Links" menu button on the forum nav bar. The pulldown menu has an option saying "Your Profile". From there you can click "Find more posts by this member" and "Find all threads started by this member".

Also, if you click on your Username inside any post, you'll see a pulldown menu, from which you can select "Find other posts by this user".

Additionally, if you click on the "Members List" link in the Quick Links forum menu bar, you can look up a member (including yourself) and view their profile. From there, you can find other posts/threads made by that member.
