Default Making someone add products...

I have a product on my site that when ordered, I want the customer to be forced to buy a 2nd item or else they can't buy the first one.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks!

Not in native zencart. It would require a customization.

Any possibilities for a customization by anyone or how would I go about it?

Just curious, thanks

I see there's a Better Together module which lets you package multiple products....why not set the price of the first product outrageously high where you only get a discount (i.e. regular price) when you order the second product with it?

Ok ok, so that might not work. However, have you thought about merely using attributes to package the second product with the first? If you want you could probably retain a separate product page for the second product as well (so it could be ordered independently if you choose).

... But then you'd have to call it "Worse Not Together." :)

See, the reason I want to do this is because of the service I offer.

I have a 8mm film reel to DVD, and that's a flat rate. Then we have a one time setup fee of $15.

So, I can't lump in the price in together because if they order 2 of these, only ONE $15 setup fee should be included, not on both.

Any ideas on ways around this, or ideas how to get them to do the $15 setup fee?

Thanks guys!

How about using an order total module like low order fee? Shows up at checkout time only once.

Good luck,
Scott

For this particular problem, I like Merlin's solution the best so far.

If you have multiple items that really should to be sold together then you can check the cart in the product info page. Of course, you would have to disable product adding from other pages such as the category, specials or featured pages for this to work. For those who would like to see an example of this, see

Good luck,
Scott
