Hello, As i am new here, I figured I would ask. I am new to Zencart and I am working with the attributes of the program.
I am attempting to add multiple items to the dropdown feature. I did everything in the FAQ, yet it is still confusing. I added one and because it is only one, it gives me the radio button. Does anyone know the thread answer or how to add to the dropdown once I am have done everything in the 3 areas. And I have read the FAQ answer, so no need to copy/paste it here, I still am confused....lol

Me too, I'm only getting radio buttons, even though they're all set to Dropdowns in the Option Names settings.
I hope someone can help! In the mean time I'll keep searching!... |

Another problem I'm having, as well as being Radio buttons, not dropdowns, is they're all selected by default, there's no turning them off!! So you have no option but to buy all of them!! Here's my problem page: here (It uses the Mihluna template)

Attributes consist of ...
Option Name Manager: Option Name ... example Color Option Type ... example Radiobutton Option Value Manager: Option Name: Color Option Value Name: Red Sort Order: 10 Option Name: Color Option Value Name: Yellow Sort Order: 20 Option Name: Color Option Value Name: Green Sort Order: 30 Option Name: Color Option Value Name: Pick a choice from below (or some similar text) Sort Order: 0 Then the Attributes are added to the Product in the Attributes Controller ... Option Name: Color Option Value: Red Option Name: Color Option Value: Yellow Option Name: Color Option Value: Green Option Name: Color Option Value: Pick a choice from below Default: YES Display Only: YES What you have done is make 3 seperate Option Names as Radiobuttons ... then a seperate Option Value on each Option Name ... then added them to your Product ...

You have totally lost me ...
You have an Option Name: Color with Option Type: Dropdown ... correct? You have Option Value Names of what? ![]() Then you go on to something about Copying ... what do you think you are trying to copy and where?

We are using ver. 1.3.8a. Our business is a furniture store.
Added a product for a Dining Table and 4 chairs - order size 1 by checkbox. Next added a product for a Server - order size 1 by checkbox. Next added a product for Chairs sold in pairs - order min 2 in units of two by drop down. All worked fine. I then wanted to add attributes to product - Dining table & fours chairs - order size 1 by checkbox. Added 1st attribute Server - order size 1 by checkbox. Both worked fine. I then tried to add an attribute for Chairs sold in pairs - order min 2 in units of two by drop down. WOULD NOT WORK - kept defaulting to a Radio button. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for whatever help you can give me. |

One of the errors commonly made when setting up attributes, is that people think in terms of the PRODUCTS they are to apply to... rather than the ATTRIBUTES themselves.
When you start setting up attributes, IGNORE (for a while anyway) the individual products they are eventually going to be applied to. Focus FIRST on setting up your Option NAMES. Let's say I sell clothing, and now need to configure SIZE and COLOUR attributes. These will (later) apply to most of my products, which include shirts, trousers and shoes. So, in the Option Names Manager, I start to configure my Option Names. Looking broadly at my product mix, I decide that SHIRT SIZE is different from TROUSER SIZE, which is also different from SHOE SIZE.. I could (if I wanted to) create a broad Option Name "Size", but this might require that when I start adding Option VALUES, I'd have to be a bit more specific about what item ranges they'd apply to. So, for sizes... I decide to create separate Option Names: Shirt Size Shoe Size Trouser Size After I have created these (and I've decided they should all be DROPDOWN type attributes), I move over to the Option VALUES manager. Here (one by one) I start to add the various size VALUES to each of: Shirt Size Shoe Size Trouser Size For SHIRT SIZE, I create (one at a time), the following option VALUES: Select a shirt size (sort order will be 1) Small (sort order will be 10) Medium (sort order will be 20) Large (sort order will be 30) X-Large (sort order will be 40) (Note the " Select a shirt size " Option Value with Sort Order 1 . I will later set this as a "Display Only" option, thus enabling the cart to "force" the customer to make a proper size choice) I now follow a similar procedure to add Option Values to the other size Option Names : Shoe Size and Trouser Size ---------------------------------------------------------------------- When I have all the appropriate Option Values set up with their Option Names, ONLY THEN will I look to associating them with individual products. So I call up my first product (via Attributes Controller), and using the two dropdown lists in the large grey screen area, link the Names and Values to the product. I make the " Select a XXXX size " Display Only, then click the Default Sort Order button. Then I call up the product in the webshop to test my handiwork...

I appreciate your response. I followed your instructions but it did not work. Still comes up with a Radio button. The following is additional info. when I added the item to the product. I set the attributes as follows:
1. Used for display purpose only - No 2 Attribute is free ........-Yes 3. Default attribute to me marked selected - both yes & no did not correct the problem. 4. Apply discounts - yes 5. Include in base price - no 6 Attribute required for text - no. Also, the next to the last line of your message "make the ......read only"? Did not see a way to do that. I did set the default sort order - 0. What do you think? |
