If you are simply moving a site from one directory to another, there should be no need to re-install. (I don't do a re-install)

I just go to CPanel, and using the inherent "COPY" function, duplicate the zencart files and folders in one directory, so that they appear in the other directory.

Then I follow steps 2, 3, and 4 above...

fix_cache_key.php is the last step to do (and the file is available in the Free Add-ons)

When everything is moved and configured, and fix_cache_key.php is in the same directory as the main zencart folders, you go to your browser and type in:

Code:
http://www.yoursite.com/zencart-folder/fix_cache_key.php
and press [enter] button on your keyboard. This "runs" the file.

I'm not really trying to move my site. I just wanted to upgrade it and patch it for security reasons. Until it got hacked, it was running fine on 1.3.7.

If there is a way I can trash all that I've done and start over, maybe that would be easier. All I want to do is upgrade, make sure it works and then reopen the store for business as usual. I don't want it moved or copied. That faq on upgrading is so confusing and trying to follow it has really made a mess. I guess Zen assumes that everyone using it knows about php and knows all the lingo and such.

What and where is CPanel? I will try that if I can find it.

Oh dear... Surely you must have some kind of host administration console? C-Panel is the most common, but most hosts have a simiar system.

If you don't know about your host's administration interface, then you really need to find out how to access it and use it.

PS: I also see that your mission is to upograde, AND move.

I'd get the move done first - then worry about the uograde.

Oh, you mean on my host site control panel. Yes, I have that and I can access the files of my site through their web ftp. I can also access everything on my standalone ftp program, Transmit, a Mac program. I just hadn't heard it called CPanel.

I don't want to move my store. Why do I need to move it? Can't I upgrade it without moving it?

Your original post said that you had the store in a sub-domain and you want it in the main domain.

Yes, you can upgrade without moving it (and you can move it without upgrading it)...

... and you can move AND upgrade it...

The chronology of these processes, however, is an important consideration.

I'm sorry if my original post was confusing. I didn't "want"my store moved to the main domain. I misunderstood the tutorial to say that I "needed" to make a test store in a totally different directory to see of the upgrade would work before I could apply it to the real store.

Let's simplify this. I would like to start over...completely.

I am in the process of totally deleting the new store I made. I will keep the copy of my database with the new name and just have it as a backup.

My store is still in the sub-domain where it has always been. It still works, with a few flaws that I hope will be fixed in the upgrade. I have taken it offline, but I can access it from my computer.

So, assuming I have done nothing, maybe I can follow your instructions rather than the complex list of things to change in the tutorial.

...And thank you again for your patience with me.

I know things can get frustrating at times - both for the person asking for help and the person trying to offer it.

If you really struggle, send me a PM.
