Hi,
I have this issue where I have a product that is taxable, but it has service attributes that are non-taxable. ZC currently calculates tax for all attributes. I want to know if it's possible to to have ZC only calculate tax for the product only, but not the attributes. I'm running ZC 1.3.7 on one store and 1.3.8 on another one. Thank you. |

Tax is applied based on the Product and extends to the Attributes ...
There isn't anything built into Zen Cart, at this time, to manage tax separately for Attributes ...

A workaround might be to reduce the service cost by the tax percent, and perhaps include a note to this effect in checkout. It is possible that there could be legal obstacles to this, requiring you to show the service separately as non-taxable. In that case, you might have to make the service a separate (non-taxable) product. A cross-sell mod that displays the service below the product info could help with this. Definitely an annoying problem, though.

Thanks for the replies.
Yeah, creating a second product for the service was what first came to my mind. Now, I want to know if there's an easy way to pass the product model to the product service in the url (GET variable) so that it prefills one text attribute to know for which item the service should be done. Not sure if I'm explaining well enough, but here's an example: Customer is viewing X product. X product includes a link in the description saying 'Click here to add Y service for this item' URL for link would be something like index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=Yid&service_for=Xmodel Y service has attribute 'Do service for item model:" Is it possible to have this prefilled if it's found in the URL? Thanks. |
