State Field Not Required During Registration but Required in Admin?

I managed to make the State field non-mandatory during customer registration and my customers have been able to register without problem.

However, when I attempt to edit their data in Admin (capitalization and/or data error), I am unable to update my change and the State field has to be filled. Does anyone have a resolution for this? Thanks.

I set the State field in Admin->Configuration-Minimum Values to blank. That's all besides removing the '*' from the english.php file.

Any advice wld be greatly appreciated.

I would advise you to undo that change and add a state named "Not selected", instead.

Each customer record has a state (zone) code column in the database and I can see that causing problems unless you remove validation for that field, I would imagine you'll lose certain functionality if you do that too, though.
