Show stock level in sub categories..

I have a shop that has lots of products in many sub categories...

I want to write a query so that I can have a section on my admin where I can show the stock level in a particular category including all products in following sub categories.

Is this possible?

If I can edit that, I can use that function to show current stock levels instead of product count... can anyone help?
