starting over
I tried to re-install ZC 1.3.8a today and thought that as long I have the correct info for the mySQL database it would find all the items in it. Alas, it did not.
There were no unusual errors during the install other than the "i can't write to this file or that file" which were easily fixed.
What did I do wrong?
I have the install the same IP address for the DB and gave it the correct DB name, user name and password, yet when I went to the store after the install was done, there was no items at all and it was basically back to a vanilla install waiting to be configured from scratch.
Happy New Year to all.

Re: starting over
When you got to the database part of the install did you upgrade or install?
If you did not upgrade do you have a backup of the database?

Re: starting over
I did an install and gave it the info the existing mySQL.
I made a backup before I did anything, just in case.
Thanks for the speedy reply.

Re: starting over
you need to restore your database and run the installer again.

Re: starting over
I tried to restore the data base again and this time noticed this error:

/*!40101 SET @OLD_CHARACTER_SET_CLIENT=@@CHARACTER_SET_CLIENT */;# MySQL returned an empty result set (i.e. zero rows).

/*!40101 SET NAMES utf8 */;# MySQL returned an empty result set (i.e. zero rows).
what does that mean?

Re: starting over
FWIW, I did the same steps from my PC (the other machine is an iMac running 10.5.6) and did not get the error.
Still stuck with a vanilla site though.

Re: starting over
Are you following the correct steps when producing your DB backup??

Re: starting over
Yes I am following the correct steps. I have the steps printed out and use them every time I do a DB backup. I actually have the link you mentioned printer out as my instruction sheet.
It shows the correct data when I look at it in phpAdmin, just can't get the site to see it.

Re: starting over
What about a DB table prefix? Does your DB backup have them,
but not your new DB? See DB_PREFIX here:
