How to add product to subcategory
Hello everyone,
My question is very basic, but I cant seem to figure it out. The website has been up for a couple of years now and I just recently started managing it. I'm trying to create a subcategory within a subcategory and add products. I am able to do so but when I go live on the website, I don't see either the subcategory or the products I added into it.
What am I doing wrong? am I missing any step?
I've added products to subcategories that the person who managed this website before created, but when I go and create a new subcategory and add products to it, Im not able to see them.
Please help!!
Thank you in advance:smile:
I'm using version v1.3.9h

Lala29,
First off - Welcome to the community...
Can you provide a bit of additional ionformation
in your admin > tools > server/version info >
Post here your PHP ver, your mysql ver
Now on to what I believer is your issue
When you created your sub-sub-cat - were there any products existing at that level??
Code:
cat -
sub-cat
products
sub-sub-cat
or was it
Code:
cat -
sub-cat
sub-sub-cat
news products

Re: How to add product to subcategory
Hi Kobra,
Thank you so much for your reply.
PHP Version: 5.3.5 (Zend: 2.3.0)
Database: MySQL 5.1.54
I really dont know much about code. I'm attaching a screen shot, maybe that way I can explain it better.
As you can see in the image, the category name is "Music" then a sub-category "Instrumental" and then another sub-cat "Band Arrangements". The "American Band Journal", "A.I.E.S" and the "Brass Music for Young Bands" subcategories were already created by the previous site manager. Each of these have products in it. I created the "American Festival Series" and then I went into it and added a product. When I go and check the website, neither the subcategory "American Festival Series" is there nor the product I added. I never got a warning sign or anything so I thought it should work. If I try to add a product to any subcategory the previous person created, it works fine.
I hope my explanation was clear. Please let me know if you need more information.
Thank you so much for your help!

Re: How to add product to subcategory
Does this new product have stock??
Or is the stock "0"
Post your site also - you can post it like this to prevent google from picking it up
zen-cart dot com
Re: How to add product to subcategory
At the time of the picture the product was active, which is presumably after the category and product was added and an attempt was made to access it on the store side.
One observable difference is related to the sort order of the new category. The others have something on the order of 2000200000 and have variations assigned which probably mean something on the template side. Suggest making the new category have a sort order first equivalent to one of the others, then possibly slightly higher than that one.
Re: How to add product to subcategory
We do have stock of the product. I didnt enter a sort number for that subcategory. The website is store.salvationarmy.ca
I tried creating a new subcategory, this time adding a sort number and still it didnt work.

Re: How to add product to subcategory
Hi mc12345678,
I tried creating a new subcategory with a higher sort number (2016000000)...but it didnt work.
In the first image you can see it now has a sort number. The 2nd image you can see at the bottom it says "Note: Category has subcategories. Products cannot be added" Why is that? :'(
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Re: How to add product to subcategory
I am seeing your new product here is the bread crumb path
Code:
Home :: Music :: Instrumental :: Band Arrangements :: American Festival Series :: Nos. 1-4
You might be with an ISP that caches content and might have to wait to see these on the front end
You can use a free proxy to view your front end as other might see it - one like

Categories can have sub-cats and sub-sub-cats or products but not both
