Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping
Adds bookmarklet buttons for popular social bookmarking/shopping sites to your product_info page. Currently does del.icio.us, furl, wists and My Yahoo. If this mod is popular, I will add some more shopping sites (Kaboodle, Stylehive, etc.) later on. Get it while it's hot at

If you haven't used social bookmarking, it would be a good idea to learn something about it before putting it on your site. :) Open a free account on del.icio.us and try it out. It's particularly useful if you find yourself working on multiple computers throughout the day and need access to your bookmarks on each one - but even if you only work on one computer, it's interesting to see what other people are looking at and what's popular on the web.
Good luck,
Scott

The image below shows what the social button bar looks like.

Hi there,
I like this mod, I think it is a great idea. Works without a hitch! Will get back to you soon.

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping
Thanks for the feedback. I have one more change in the hopper, which is to optionally (the cart owner can set a flag) provide a link to Socializer, which gives a brazillion links to social bookmarking sites. Actually, what I would really like is to have something like this, but for social shopping sites, but I haven't found it yet.
I waffled about putting this on (it's ad supported, so some shop owners might not want it), but didn't realize the obvious solution of just making it optional.

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping
I'd like to use this, but it doesn't seem to work with chemo's seo urls mod.
Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping
This is way cool. Can you report on how well it is working on your site (or anyone else's who has installed the mod)? I'm curious as to whether folks will actually use this. If they do it could provide a good bit of traffic.
Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping
zforrest - thank you for this report. Can you be more specific? I would like to update the documentation on this.
Thanks,
Scott
Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping
Well, it's a rather weird bug.
Ok. So in the social template included in the contribution, there is a line similar to the following:
$linkpath = urlencode($linkpath);
Which takes characters like "&" and makes them readable like "&" (I assume), however, but whenever you go to bookmark, delicious, furl, etc, misreads the link. For example, on a given product, I click the delicious icon and this is an example url it will save:
http://www.mysite.com/index.php?main...ducts_id=70543
ok, so far so good. Now when I actually save the link, delicious redirects but I reach a 404 error because this will is the link it redirects to:
http://www.mysite.com/product_info?a...ducts_id=70543
which sucks.
I've tried some other methods like htmlentities and htmlspecialchars, but since I really don't know what the hell I'm doing in PHP, my efforts have been in vain. I hope my explanation helps.
Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping
Thank you - let me see if I can resolve it. I was actually going to do another release shortly anyhow to provide the link to *even more* sites. :)

Re: Support thread: Social Bookmarking/Social Shopping
zforrest, if you type into the address bar
http://www.mysite.com/index.php?main...ducts_id=70543
does this work?
Thanks,
Scott
