Add extra shipping charge for Hazardous Materials

I am new to zen-cart-I have limited knowledge of php and am not sure how the attributes feature works at all. I'm not sure this is even what i need though.

I have 5 products.

I have setup a ups module for shipping--by weight..So that it automatically calulcates everything.

The problem is that two of my products are special.

They are hazardous so there is extra fees that applies, sometimes.

Basically this is it

one of the products needs to have an extra $25 if they order just one of them---but that should only apply to the first one they order.

The other products needs to have an extra $15 added to it on the first order--but if they order more than one each extra one should have an additional $5 added to it.

The other three products have no extra fees----all five of these are under the same category.

Please help--simple instructions would be great

I need to add a question somewhere in the checkout process

We need to know what type of product they are applying this on-----we would like them to have to fill them out and would like the answer to show up with the order info when it is emailed to us

any ideas??

This sounds like you will be needing some custom coding to manage your shipping needs on these products ...

You do not have anything "standard" about all products and will need some customization to flag the products and calculate them separately plus manage the quantity charges ...

Really all I need is one thing

if someone orders up to 5 of a certain product there should be a handling fee of 2.50--I can handle that...but if they order 6 of that product I need to add an extra 22.50.

a simple required attribute that says hazardous handing fee on the 5 products... that way the client can see it. know what the charge is

and then create the form using textfield attributes...

let them fill in the answers right on the product

create a new dropdown attribute called hazardous freight charge
this will aoto populate it as a radio button......

now you can create simple text box attributes for them to inout information

thanks---so I added a drop down attribute called hazardous shipping---it works--it adds the 22.50...but I on,y want it to be added if they order 6 or more of this item.

to expand upon what Merlin said. His method works for the first product you mentioned, except when you set the price for the attribute use the one time field and then it will charge the fee on one item and if they have a quantity greater than 1 it will only charge the fee once.

The second product problem has me stumped.

I found the best way to handle extra UPS Charges such as Hazardous Materials is to use "Onetime Attributes Qty Price Discount:". This way it will not show the price in the attributes. You can also set it up this way so that you can charge the HazMat fee based on order quantity. ie 1-4 = $20 5-8 = $40.
