database error after changing admin folder
I have spent all of today trying to fix this error after following the advice to change my admin folder name.
It has been hell and my shop is now showing the page - Cannot connect to database!!
I have ready many posts and not found a solution yet.
I have checked my php and a second EMPTY database has been created (don't know how) I think my shop may be pointing to this empty database.
After changing the name of the admin folder and following the other instructions I am unable to connect to the back office. Just get the error
ERROR: [NEWFOLDERNAME]/includes/configure.php file not found. Suggest running zc_install/index.php?
I can, however, login with the old address [admin/] as the folder is still on my server.
I have not changed the password to the DB
What can I do?

How did you create the new folder contents?
Do you have in this new folder a /includes/configure.php file?
Is this file edited to reflect your new admin folder name?

The shop had been working fine until I change the admin folder name for extra security.
I use Dreamweaver to change and upload to the server. All the files within the old folder ADMIN and the new folder have the same files. The configure file is in both.
I can log into the back office but cannot view my site at www.chocolatefalls.co.uk
Yes the file is updated to the new folder name, although I am unable to log into the back office with the new folder name only with the old ADMIN address.

This states that you do not
Check file byte sizes
Re: database error after changing admin folder
Yes I know that is what it means. But the file is viewable on the server so I know that it is there.
define('DIR_WS_ADMIN', '/choccart/newname/');
define('DIR_WS_CATALOG', '/choccart/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_ADMIN', '/choccart/newname/');
define('DIR_WS_HTTPS_CATALOG', '/chocolatefalls-scotland/choccart/');
// * DIR_FS_* = Filesystem directories (local/physical)
//the following path is a COMPLETE path to your Zen Cart files. eg: /var/www/vhost/accountname/public_html/store/
define('DIR_FS_ADMIN', '//www/chocolatefalls-scotland/choccart/newname/');
define('DIR_FS_CATALOG', '//www/chocolatefalls-scotland/choccart/');
My main issue to try and fix is the database error when I try to visit the shop so that the shop is open again

As you should have only been working on the admin side - your frontend should not have been affected....
check your /includes files for modified date as none should be recent
i.e. date you started this or later

Just completed the check on the includes/ folders. Was hoping to find an error...but the files have not been amended.
Not looking good so far.
In PHPMyadmin I was trying to find out how I can delete the empty database that appeared. There does not seem to be a button to do this.
Maybe my shop is pointing to the empty database file?
I don't know how I could find this out!
Re: database error after changing admin folder
Now getting somewhere!
My back office is now working using the new admin folder.
Still have the same error when trying to visist the shop at www.chocolatefalls-scotland.co.uk

Sama answer for both.
As you are now connecting to the DB for the admin - Compare the DB entries that are in the admin configure to those that are in the frontend configure
