Performance / Speed Issues

I currently have a shop setup using Zen Cart and i am having a few problems, the first issue is that certain people can view the website but every now and again there browser window will be shut down and sent back to the desktop.

The next issue is the speed of the website to certain users, does anybody have any ideas the reason for any of these problems.

Any help would be much appreciated.
