Where do I put the Zen folder to start the install?
Hey there- I'm a total novice when it comes to programming but somehow I've managed so far with my site. I'm sure this is a ridiculously easy question but I just can't figure out the answer...
I'm on a MAC G5 (non intel) OSX (Tiger I think). I got XAMPP up and running and everything is "activated." I changed all of those ZEN file permissions in a terminal as indicated in the install. I already created the db in the phpmyadmin area of XAMPP.
But I can't figure out where to put the ZEN folder to start the install!
When I type http://localhost in a browser I get the XAMPP page. I dragged/dropped the Zen Cart folder (I named it "catalog") into the same local area that the XAMPP folder is in, but when i put "http://localhost/catalog" in a brower I get a "page not found."
In fact, I have some other files in the local folder that used to come up in a browser and now they give me the "not found" error too since I installed XAMPP.
I thought maybe if I put "catalog" in the htdocs folder within xampp it would work- but I still get a "Page not found" when I type in "http://localhost/xampp/catalog" or any other path (xampp/htdocs/)
I'm simply dragging and dropping this folder. Is that the wrong way to do it? Where do I put this darn folder to start the install?
Thanks in advance for any assistance! I'm choosing the "have a drink" post icon as that's how I feel right now! :shocking:
cheers- Amy
Re: Where do I put the Zen folder to start the install?
Amy, if you want Zen-Cart to show up as "localhost", you simply put all the CONTENTS of the Zen-Cart folder in the "root" directory (htdocs), and NOT the whole folder.
Re: Where do I put the Zen folder to start the install?
Thanks! I just figured out that I had an XAMPP folder in the localhost that doesn't belong there. DUH. After reading the httpd.conf for XAMPP I realized that XAMPP sets the default root to the Applications/XAMPP. So I should be putting the files in htdocs under the XAMPP folder in Applications. So I put the contents of the folder into htdocs there and it worked!
Now I have the install page! Wooohooo!
Now let's see if I can figure the rest of it out...
Thanks!
Amy
