Upgrading a template from 1.38 to 1.39h

Hi,
New to ZenCart. Haven't had any problems that I haven't found a solution to (yet!)

Question: I am thinking of saving a bunch of time by purchasing a $200 premade template by "Cowboy". Problem is the various selling sites say it's ONLY for 1.38. In playing with a few free templates, I haven't seen any real issues yet with running an older template on 1.39...but I don't want to gamble on the $200 and find it doesn't work or needs major tweeks to work securly. One of the selling sites said no refund if it is incompatible. No obvious way to ask the Author...

I ideally would find a trial of the particular template, but the owner probably is worried about theft.

So, am I risking the $200 by purchasing it and running it on 1.39H?
I really want to be using the latest and greatest for security and best upgradability with future features (that I would figure out how to enhance the then in use commercial template).

Why purchase when you can roll your own???

Can't contact the author is a deal breaker for me...

Purchasing a commercial template is to save time of rolling my own, and makes up for my lack of design skills :(

I don't mind paying the author for his time and skill investment. I just don't want to end up spending too much time getting it to work with 1.39h, since my goal was to reduce my time.

As far as not able to reach the author, it seems the author resells his work on multiple template sales websites, as do several other prolific template authors.

Yeah, wish there was an easier way to get a specific answer, which I suspect is only in the hands of the author. I have a feeling that he just hasn't had a chance to certify it works on 1.39h or just hasn't communicated to the multiple selling sites that it does indeed work on 1.39h.

Many authors re-sell through/for template monster
Search this forum for them and make your own decision

My experience is you must like the template the way it is delivered as the license they take in the code many times precludes your using standard methods for alteration

Found another template site that is Way less expensive than the popular $200 for the "same" template. Just a little nervous in sending money to that site.

Never simple...

Sure enough...did some research and none of the contact information, domain owner info, locations match up...bogus site is my guess.

You can always hire someone reputable who has design skills and can integrate a design into your zen cart site. This is what I did. No regrets. Just make sure you get the right person to do it.
