Well, this did work when I had it in a subdirectory - but then I moved it to a new domain and root, and now it stopped working. "/" or "/images" is a no go.

Never mind. I DID have a htaccess, invisible. So I wrote over that without knowing, messed up the site, spent the entire day looking for the culprit, and now everything's ok. :)
