Problem with footer_menu.php

What to turn off numerous links but am blewing up the site doing it

How do you do it correctly?

1.3.9h new install
Slider is separating the pictures. Went into the main_page area to put in text and everything blew up.

For a while I couldn't get any images back, now they are in four bars
...

I am using Chrome

There is a line where the gradient mets the background color in both the unaltered copy and any background I put in. I am thinking that there is a bottom border on images and that is what is showing...

How do you get rid of some of the footer menu links or replace them with others.
