Lee Chiang was born in Kanpur, India. The squalor of his birth place in rural India was juxtaposed against the magnificent Himalayan Mountains, where perhaps the people of this poor town drew their energy from.

Later in May of 1973, his family uprooted once again as his grandparents had done fifty years earlier leaving their small village in Hupeh, China. Lee now called Canada his home. Lee grew up in the concrete urban streetscapes of Downsview in West Toronto, better know as "The Projects", that led him, early on to grow an appreciation of all that was beautiful in the poor, the rejected, the destroyed and the violent.

In 2006, Lee graduated from Architectural Science with a B.Arch (SCI). Here he further gained an appreciation for the arts while cultivating his sense of design.
