Make pop-up suggestion when Product is selected

I am setting up a site and the customer would like a pop-up image or a suggestions box to appear when a product is selected. Can I do this?

The site is a jewelry site and when a viewer selects a necklace, the customer would like a pop-up to appear that shows the matching earrings. Something like "may we also suggest" and then an image of the earrings. Help!

Any ideas on this? I'm really stuck. I guess it doesn't have to be a pop-up box.

What I'm looking for is: when the visitor is on the Product Description page for a necklace to have an image with a link to the matching earrings be on the page.

Can I do this through an attribute? Help!
