Default SSL using shared ssl for the server

From what I've read in many of the posts here, so far, a dedicated ip/server is a better choice than a shared ssl for the server.
My question is what is the risk associated with the shared server?

I haven't installed Zen Cart yet, because I just don't feel comfortable doing so,
without knowing the risk of shared ssl for the server.
The hosting service has given me the URL for the shared ssl; and I believe I could get Zen Cart installed ok, if I go through with it.

The Host Service person has suggested that my client spend $2.00/month more for a dedicated IP, allowing his URL to be an HTTPS .
I told my client that, and he was willing to pay it.

I just want to hear it from the experts (this board), the reasons a shared SSL is not as secure as a dedicated ip...

    What do you think?

Thanks for any and all of your help.
    Rick..

Default Re: SSL using shared ssl for the server

It's probably more a matter of perception than security.

With the shared SSL, the address in the browser address bar will be something other than your site's name with an https in front. Some visitors notice stuff like that.

For what little a dedicated SSL certificate costs, it's a no-brainer for me. Get the dedicated certificate.
