Is there a way for me to set up a special that allows my customers to receive a certain item free when they spend a set amount of $. My store is downloadable products only so it is not as if I can just toss it in their box.

The Dangling carrot mod from OS commerce will do exactly what you want.

You can select any number of items and set them as a gift, then apply a threshold at which they become eligible for that gift.

I've just finished porting the mod to Zen Cart and need to package it up and write the install read me before release.

Should be in the downloads section soon.

How does it get applied to the store?
