    Default Group Discounts

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up some group discounts and have read the tutorial. In it it mentions some things that I don't seem to have the option to do. I'm working in the latest version of Zen Cart and the program is showing as installed.
    Here's what the tutorial says....

"You can enter a coupon code, or if you leave it blank, the system will generate a random code for you.
    Save the coupon.

Now you can either take the coupon code and manually give it to your customers in advertisements (in print or on your website) or you can click the Email button and send it to a list of customers.

If you want to set up restrictions so the coupon applies to only to certain products or categories, click the Restrictions button to set them up. You can do this at a later date if you desire."

In creating a group discount I have only two fields I can fill in -- "Group Name" and "Percentage Discount" How do I get a field for a "coupon code"? Is it the same as my "Group Name"?

Also, there is no "restrictions" button. Don't think I really need it right now, but am wondering why I'm not getting it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Group Discounts and Coupons are two separate mechanisms. You can have group discounts but you can't predicate them on entering a coupon (without writing code). You can have coupons but you can't restrict them to groups (without writing code).

Thanks for the reply, but I'm confused. If I can have group discounts, how, in the checkout process, does a member of the group take advantage of the discount?

Group discounts are totally automatic - nothing is required of your customers. Once you have placed them in the appropriate group, they get their discounts.

Coupons require the customer to enter a coupon code, but the group discount doesn't require any customer action.

Thank you, swguy. If anybody else is as dense as I on this issue, go to "customers" and add them on a one on one basis. So I guess if someone wants the discount on the first order they need to call to be set up as a customer first.
