Default Collecting international duties and taxes

I have a couple questions I hope someone might have some insight on.

We ship product around the world. Shipping charges are collected as part of the check-out process, but our terms of sale require the buyer to pay for any taxes and duties outside of the U.S. We ship by FedEx and flag the shipment so that the recipient is responsible for duties and taxes.

Does anyone bill back the taxes and duties to the credit card if the buyer refuses to pay the carrier?

Does anyone have a disclosure in their checkout process to alert the customer that freight and duties are the responsibility of the buyer and will be billed by the freight carrier?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Default Re: Collecting international duties and taxes

This is pretty standard practice I would think.

I have a client who occasionally ships to a non-EU country, and the purchaser has to pay any import duties / taxes - either to the shipper who may have to pay on the recipient's behalf - or to that country's customs & excise office.

One way you could assert this policy is to configure your ZC to force the customer to acknowledge having read terms & conditions before they can checkout, and the opening para of your T&C's relates to such tax issues.
