Google Checkout (GC) carrier calculated rates not populated

Hi,

I have hits an misses with GC and while I finally resolved all problems or settled for a workaround I'm having a new problem that did not exist before.

Google is not calculating shipping rates. It is pulling my "minimum" rates fine, but that's it. This convinces me that it is communicating with my server just fine. Also orders get placed fine (no session timeouts anymore) back to my site.

Is this the issue with GC not communicating with carrier servers? I have UPS and USPS enabled, they both display my "backup" ship rates in GC.

Solved it.

Two things I found out about ZC and GC.

1. If a product doesn't have a wight specified (as it was in my case - an oversight), AND total weight of the order is 0lb, Google Checkout uses your "backup" amounts. It works fine if in addition to the gravity prone product, you have placed a product that has a weight in the cart. I consider this a bug.

2. If the calculated shipping amount is less than the backup amount you specify, the latter is used, even though the GC module states the backup amounts are for cases when the GC has problem obtaining carrier rates. I consider this a bug also.

Suggested fixes for issue 1: have a button in the GC module admin that says: "0 weight cart contents have free shipping" true, false

For issue : have a button in GC module admin that says: "Always use backup amounts if the calculated amount is lower" true false

Any GC devs listening?

Feels like I am talking to myself, but...

another issue I found is that if the total weight in the cart is less than 0.4lb, USPS rates default to backup amounts. I suspect that GC has problem calculating shipping costs at this weight level. This could be the Google Checkout issue and I will notify them of this.

Finally gave up on carrier calculated shipping. Now all of a sudden, all merchant calculated shipping options are offered at GC. Also, the Free options is available in GC, regardless the minimum order restrictions set for free shipping.
