Can I make the price drop when item is added to cart?

You know on Amazon sometimes something is on sale but you don't see the sale price until you add it to the cart?

Let's say it's a book marked at $20, but when you add it to your cart the sale price of $15 shows up.

Would there be any way to do this with ZenCart, maybe there is an add on or module?

So do you think it would work if I put a 25% quantity discount on a quantity of 1 of a certain item? Just trying to follow your suggestion the best way :)

Quantity Discounts does not modify the price in the cart; it creates a discount which is visible at checkout time (on the payment page of checkout).

So then maybe it would not be the best way to do what I'm trying to? I'm definitely open to any suggestions.

But why would you want to have a lower price in the cart than the customer see's prior to purchase? After all, he's already made the decision to purchase, by clicking the Add to basket button, so he's prepared to pay the higher price - whats the benefit in discounting it now? Conversely, you might well lose potential customers at the product screen, who dont want to pay $20 for the item, but had they known that when putting it in their cart it would then only be $15 they would have bought it! Sorry if I'm not making much sense here, I'm just confused as to why someone would want to do that!

That's a good question. The reason is that some items can't be advertised below a certain price. But the description will say something like "add to cart for special price". The customer will know the item is for sale at lower than the price listed on the item, but won't see the discount until it's in the cart.
