Default Shared Products Between 2 or More Categories?

    Hello,

I was wondering....I have a product that actually could match 2 different categories I have setup. Let's say I have 300 of them. Is there a way I could "share" this product between more than one category for inventory purposes? Instead of listing them in both categories with half the inventory (150qty here and 150 qty here), is there a way I could link the same product to multiple categories so that the inventory is the same and shared between all of them? So when an item is bought through one category, it updates the inventory quantities in all categories?

    Thank you,
    Mark

Linked Products are really 1 Product that display in more than one Category where the main Category is the master_categories_id for the product for use with Sales and such ...

When you Copy a Product to another Category, you have a choice of making a Duplicate Product or a Linked Product ...

I think I've got this right. Your saying that yes, it can be done, and all I would have to do is to copy the item to another category, and it will ask me if I'm just making a duplicate, or a linked item?

What is the part about the item id?

Why is this forum not showing the replies to the last 3 posts I have made?

    Thank you,
    Mark

    P.S. That was quick!!!

I don't understand what it is you are asking about the item id ...

I see 8 posts by you so I am not sure where your other posts might be if not among those 8 ...

The part I'm talking about "id" is from you 1st reply to this post:

"main Category is the master_categories_id for the product for use with Sales and such ..."

Are you saying I've got to edit this "master_categories_id" in some way?

No, she's saying that if you put a shared (linked) product on sale, you use the master (original) category ID for the product, not the category the product is linked to.
