Amex not being taken.

I had a customer try and place an order with an Amex, and it didn't go through. He got this error message:

10413 Transaction refused because of an invalid argument. See additional
error messages for details. - The totals of the cart item amounts do not
match order amounts.

We called Paypal, and they said that:

The Variable the are receiving(Zen Cart is Sending) is American Express it needs to Send Amex.

Has anyone else run into this? I'm running 1.3.8.. All other cards are processing fine..
