Db will not upgrade????

I have a fresh installed 1.3.8a files on the server. I have been trying to update the Db but it gives me an error everytime I try.
Here is the error i get "
in:
[select admin_id, admin_name, admin_pass from mydbnameadmin where admin_name = 'myadminusername']"

I tried refreshing the install files. delete the old database and upload it again. Nothing really worked .
I been trying to get it to work for the past 5 hours.

If someone can help me fix this problem will be appreciated a lot.

I found the solution for it finally....=).

You just have to upgrade one version at a time, until you get to the latest version.

Now I can go and get some rest. :)
