With GZIP compression turned on, downloading purchased files does not work for some customers.

Site is running on Linux (CentOS), ZC version 1.3.8a, with GZip compression turned on, some customers cannot download files; e.g. with Windows XP and IE cannot download and MAC with Safari and Firefox. When I turned GZIP compression off, both customers were able to download files without a problem.

Download by Redirect is true, correct permissions on pubs folder.

Again, with GZIP on, download problems, GZIP off, downloads work correctly.

Here are more server specifics in case someone would care to comment on whether this is indeed a bug or not, or if there are configuration changes required. Server is dedicated, running environment is

WHM 11.15.0 cPanel 11.18.3-R21703
CENTOS Enterprise 4.6 i686 on standard - WHM X v3.1.0
Dual processor box with 2GB of memory.

NOTE: gzip is not turned on by default, I checked that through the GZIP test URL found elsewhere in this forum. I am not sure what additional information will help narrow this problem down.

When you say gzip is turned on, do you mean in the zencart admin area you are turning it on and that's when you have download problems? I too have encountered this so have turned it off.

Yes, turned on as in Admin > Configuration > GZip Compression - 1

i have the same problem. redirect will work but without a progress bar. streaming will not work if Gzip is on in admin area.

gzip mis a compression utility so the compression of your downloads may not be the best idea as another user posted before in a similiar thread

By default, Zen Cart has gzip turned OFF; with good reason as evidenced within this thread.

Although 'gzip' has it purposes and uses, 99% of Zen Cart users need not worry about it and can safely, leave it turned OFF
