500 internal server error on xampp

Hi everyone,
i just started using both xampp and zencart and i have followed all the installation prompts and have created my database.

i have checked usernames and password and everything seems to be fine but when i try and get into the admin side of the site i always get the message:

500 internal server error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, you@example.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.


also the css isnt working but that is a side issue.

any help would be awesome

I've heard that most Mac users find MAMP better than XAMPP, but others say the latter works fine, so let's skip that for the moment.

Have you checked the includes/configure.php file and the admin/includes/configure.php file to make sure the paths are set up properly?

Also, make sure permissions are set according to the install directions on your files and folders.

Finally (gotta say it just to be complete) make sure you've removed the install directory.

I had the problem with install directory not found using XAMPP on a Mac OSX
I had to enable .htaccess support by editing httpd.conf file in /Applications/xampp/etc/httpd.conf:

Change:

AllowOverride AuthConfig

to

AllowOverride All

inside

<Directory /Applications/xampp/xamppfiles/htdocs">
</Directory>

and restart the XAMPP

I'm having the exact same problem - I tried doing what the last poster wrote and it didn't seem to do anything. Has anyone figured out a solution to this?

I had the same problem and i fixed it by giving permission to admin folder, in my case "755".

OWNER: read, write, execute
GROUP: read, execute
PUBLIC: read, execute
