Categories do not expand

I'm using version 1.3.8 and there have been no addons added in several months. The following issue just cropped up recently.

My sub-categories no longer show when clicking on the category in the sidebox. The little 'arrow' is there but it does no good.

I searched the archives and found this one from two years ago.

However, I have not edited any core code in months. Also, my 'classic' template no longer works for some reason and so I am unable to test it that way. I have, however changed some Admin settings within the last week or so and I feel confident I have simply set something wrong.

When I set the Admin - Layout Settings to always show subcategories they show up when the page loads, so I am sure they are active and in the correct place.

Do you have Products mixed in with your Categories?

A Category holds Categories or Products but not both ...

Admin>Configuration>Layout Setting

Categories - Always Open to Show SubCategories , set to 1

this will allow you to open subcategories.

Thanks Tony, I knew I'd done something but I couldn't remember what it was or where it was.

This is my first customization job for ZC. I'll probably get it down real good and then v2.0 will come out!
