Default Option to pay 50% up front

I have a custom order form where I want to give customers the option of either paying 100% or 50% up front and the rest later. How do I go about doing this?

Someone mentioned altering zen_get_products_base_price(), potentially setting a session id (outside of this function) and checking to see if it's set. But I'm not sure where I'd set the session id.

    Thanks

Take a look at the Installment Plan module in the downloads area.

    Looks like this might work.

Do you know if it's possible to apply this only to custom orders and not all products? For example I have a category for custom orders, and I wouldn't want this option to show up for normal products.

You have to write software to get this effect.

How would I go about customizing the Installment Module to make the first payment through PayPal?

Currently, I believe that all payments done through the Installment Module have to be done manually.

    Thanks

It wasn't designed to do this.

So you're saying it's impossible to customize it to do this?

Nothing is impossible - this is software. But I would not recommend attempting what you're trying to do - it's more trouble than it's worth. Use the invoice payment module from the downloads area and send them a paypal invoice manually when their order completes.

    Hi swguy,

So you're not recommending it because it's probably too troublesome to code? I thought that you would just invoke the proper functions within the paypal module. I would like to make the first payment automatic, since it will be a down payment on the order anyways. Even though it might be difficult to attempt, do you think you could point me in the right direction?

    Thanks
