How to automatically apply shipping and not have customer select it?

My shipping rules are simple: one item, shipping is $8.95.
Two or more items, it's free.
My product info tells the customer this.

I set up Table Rate based on items:
1:8.95,2:0.00

When the customer checks out, if they ordered one item, they are presented with one shipping option: Best Way for $8.95.

If they order two or more items, they are presented with one shipping option: Best Way for $0.00.

It seems like an extra step to make them actually click on their only option.

Is there a recommended way around this so that the order just automatically adds the correct shipping (either $8.95 or nothing)?

I realized after I posted this that if there is only one shipping option, the customer doesn't actually have to click on it. The radio button is already selected. I'm using Checkout Without Account (COWOA) exclusively, so my shipping info page is also a place where they can change the shipping address if they want to. So I've rationalized that it's good to have it and an explicit presentation of what the shipping is going to be.
