Default No Option Names for Option Values - Help!

I have a brand new cart installed and under Attributes have added 2 option names for the file type but when I try to add option values there is nothing in the option names dropdown box. And if I try to use the Attributes Controller I get an error that the name/value don't match.

How can I fix this? What am I doing wrong?

What kind of Attributes are you trying to make?

Peek in the Option Names Manager ... what are your Option Type set to?

NOTE: you should see 6 choices in the Dropdown:
    Dropdown
    Text
    Radio
    Checkbox
    File
    Read Only

    Thanks Ajeh,

The Uploads Option Type is set for Files.

This cart is being used by a company who has outside salesmen that get a contract and then
    1) completes a form
    2) pays for the item
    3) uploads a signed contract

Is this something we can set up? I'm sure others have needed the same thing.

You should then skip the Option Values, as you do not set an Option Value for an Option Name that is Option Type File ...

On the Attributes, you would select the Option Name and set the Option Value to:
TEXT [RESERVED FOR TEXT/FILES ONLY ATTRIBUTES]

Re: No Option Names for Option Values - Help!

    More questions.

I added the option name and associated it with a product using the TEXT option value and then tested it in my cart.

I tested Word docs and image files, only the image files seem to work.

The Word docs are all in the 2-500KB range for size which is well within the Maximum values for uploads. I don't get any errors, it just stays on the form page while the image file upload advances me to the next page. Checking the images/uploads folder on my server shows that only th image files were successfully uploaded.

Is there some way I can configure this better?

Downloads go into the /download directory not in to the /images/uploads that is for Customer Uploads ...

The Downloads cannot be in subdirectories ... so only belong in /download

    /pub should be 777

Files should always be Zipped and not include spaces and special characters in the name ...

You should see a green dot next to the files in the Attributes Controller and Downloads Manager ...

    Ajeh,

That is excellent advice on downloads and I'm sure will help me avoid problems with them.

Prehaps I didn't explain myself well. The signed contract files that need to be UPLOADED are either PDFs or Word docs. Are you saying that uploads can only be image files and downloads can be any type of file? Is this true?

We really need to be able to UPLOAD Word docs and PDF's. Will I need to hack the cart to accomplish this?

Re: No Option Names for Option Values - Help!

What I really need to know is:

    1) Am I limited to images only for my Upload File Type Attribute? If not, why can I not upload a MS Word document?

    2) Can this attribute be used on any page other than Products or do I need to hack an Upload form where ever I need one?

    Thanks for your assistance!

In the Maximum Values is the setting for files allowed and size:
    Allowed Filename Extensions for uploading
List the permissible filetypes (filename extensions) to be allowed when files are uploaded to your site by customers. Separate multiple values with commas(,). Do not include the dot(.).

    Suggested setting: "jpg,jpeg,gif,png,eps,cdr,ai,pdf,tif,tiff,bmp,zip"
    Maximum File Upload Size
What is the Maximum file size for uploads?
    Default= 2048000
NOTE: the size is relative to the setting on your server
