    Default Additional Categories Sidebox?

    Hello,

I'm wondering if there is a way to add a second "Categories" sidebox which would contain a different set of categories. The products in the 2nd categories menu would be linked from the original "Categories", just grouped differently.

I have a "Shop by Subject" menu now, I'd like to add a "Shop by Grade Level" menu under it.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Me,
A long post to read but killer...
    This is a short version

You could use a little tricky feature of coding here ...

If you are not using Document General Product Type ...

Make a Category and set the Category Restrictions to:
    Document General
    Product General

What this does is by having the Category marked as Restricted to Document General, that is a trigger to put that Category in the Document Sidebox ...

Marking it as Restricted to Product General allows normal Products to be added ...

Providing you set all of the Categories to both:
    Document General
    Product General

They will show in the Document Sidebox vs the Categories Sidebox ...

Now, you can use this Category Restriction to divide your Categories between 2 sideboxes ...

Note: Be careful that you set all Categories for the Document Sidebox to both Product Types or you will not see the Category/SubCategory in the Document Sidebox if it is missing the Restriction ...

NOTE: if you did not notice, the Restrictions for a Category appear when you Edit the Category ...

If you have to think ... you haven't been zenned ...
A simpler version of the task
Create the category, then go back and edit it. At the bottom of the page (Restrict to Product Type), select Document-General, then click Add Include Subcategories. When it refreshes, select Product-General and click Add Include Subcats.

The page will now show the two product types enabled. Save it.

When you go to create a product in the category, the dropdown will let you choose which of those two types to use.

Of course you will half to edit the english.php file to change the side box headings Category to Shop by Subject and Documents to Shop by Grade Level

    1. includes/ languages/ maestro/ english.php
    2. remember to leave the single quotes
    3. EX: 'Category' will be 'Shop by Subject'

Especially if you want the "Shop by Grade Level" box right under the first box, you can do this with Categories Dressing. Make two category groups, give each one a box and heading and hide the original box/heading.
This avoids having to add code to two boxes to discriminate between display lists.

Ok - I'm understanding this ~ now can I set these two "categories" side-by-side in the same sidebox and toggle between them?

    La,
    admin panel/ catalog/ catagories-products/

    1. Edit your Combi product page
    2. Products Quantity:
    3. Is it blank
    4. Give it a value of 1,000
    5. Cute baby picture by the way, I bet you are a proud father and mother, very precious...

    Hi,

We paid a developer to install and set up our Zen Cart site. We asked to have two category boxes but were told they tried and it was not possible in Zen Cart.

However, presumably in the process of trying to achieve the above request, they seem to have set up our categories so that there is one "Top" category and then all the our categories are actually subcategories. It's therefore impossible to add subcategories (since they would be sub-sub-categories.) How can I fix this? I can't seem to add a category at the highest level - it always defaults to the "Top" category.

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi,
The "Combi" category has been restricted to "Document - General" for Product Types. No Products Quantity was found for this Product Type

Anyone know how to turn off the "SOLD OUT" ?
