Discount on order if local postcode entered?

Hi,
I've been checking out the 'shipping' pages of the forum to no avail as yet, and wondered if anyone had a solution to this little problem.

I'd like to offer a discount to my local customers (say within 30 mile radius) As i'd save greatly on shipping costs by delivering on our own transport. I can't seem to find any sort of module definition based on postcode entered, enabling me to give discount of say 10%.

Any help appreciated.

I have not seen a vectored Zip Code locater for Zen Cart that can determine what Zip Codes are in a 30 mile radius ...

If you find one, do let us know ...

How about letting the owner specify what zip codes the discount applies to? I've wanted to set "local delivery" as a free shipping option but haven't been able to because I can't find a way to apply it to only certain zip codes (or even 820xx)

I would think hardcoding it for the relevant hand-selected local zips would be sufficient in this case. (Or putting the zips in a comma-delimited string defined in a file in /extra_definitions/, and calling that up for comparison.)

That sounds very do-able but it's beyond my skills to know which files to edit or what to add/change. If you ever have time and interest to write a detailed how-to, I'd be thrilled. But I would need instructions at such a basic level (go to /dir/sub/sub, open xxx.xxx with a text editor, replace yyy with zzz or add line "whatever") that I would be surprised if anyone was that bored.

DrByte just did something with Zip Codes and some such where you could list specific Zip Codes and something happened and if not in that block of Zip Codes then something else happened ...
