Coupon restrictions - how to?

Okay, the 'Better Together' is nice, but not what I'm looking for.
And I don't think the BOGOF is going to help my situation either.

I want to be able to track my sales through coupon codes....and I need to offer...Buy a bath salt and get a free lotion.

I can set up the coupon restrictions, but I need to know HOW to make it specific to 'Buy a Bath Salt' in order to 'get the lotion'.

First, we need a little more information. Are all the lotions the same price? Is Bath Salts a single product or all the products in a single category? How about lotions? Are they scented, colored, etc? If you have a single product Bath Salts (with or without color and scent options) and a single product Lotion (with or without color and scent options) restrictions are pretty straightforward. I think it's do-able if they have to buy any product from one category in order to get any product from another category free (as long as all the potential free products are the same price). If we could see the two products in your store, it would help.

The lotions are the 2 oz., all one price (they can pick any scent which I don't think will be a problem)

They can be any product in the bath salt catagory

Is there a way to set a restriction on WHAT category the product is in that MUST be purchased to get the free item?

(I have the restriction set on the free product)

Or is this not possible with ZC?

I've been searching the forums for 2 days and I'm not finding an answer. A lot of questions like mine, but none answered.

Oh, goody. An easy question. I like them. <g>

First, set up the coupon (if you haven't already) for $4 off.

Then, select that coupon and click "Restrictions"

Under "Category" select the "Bath Salts" category and "Allow" then insert.

Under "Product" select the 2-oz lotion and "Allow" and then insert.

You should see both the category and the product listed.

Go to your site and test it out. I *think* it will require both items to be in the cart for the coupon code to work, but I'm just another user like you. If it works, you'll have to add the coupon code to each bath salts product description as well as the free lotion description, otherwise they won't know to enter it.

If it doesn't work, say so here, and hopefully one of the gurus will jump in and tell you where I went wrong.

You are mistaken. It will work if *either* item is in the cart. It does not require both items to be in the cart.

Totally Zenned is correct. It works if either item is in the cart. Hmmmmm. Is there any way to specify that the salts themselves must be purchased to get the free lotion?

I'm beginning to think this is impossible. I wish the Better together worked with coupon codes.
