Shipping zone and flat rate for different products

Can't seem to find what I am looking for.

I sell products that I stock, as well as products that are shipped from other locations.

The products I stock are various weights and I would like to use zone weight based shipping and allow for combined shipping on the products that I stock. But not on the products that are shipped from another location. I would like to set those products up as flat rate per item.

For example:
Customer wants to buy a doormat and a kitchen towel that I stock, but also wants a clock that will be shipped separately from another location.

I want to combine the shipping for the doormat and towel by weight and zone.....but since the clock will be shipped from another location, I would like to charge a flat rate for that.

I saw similar discussions, not quite the same, but didn't see any solution yet.

Anyone know how best to handle this?

If one orders multiple items from you and sees that they are being charged a seperate shipping fee you will most likely loose purchases.

One practice is to strike a balance where the shipping fee seems normal and in most cases you break even and some you benefit and the occasional you loose. Overall you should at least break even.

I have considered that, but the profit margin per item isn't high enough for this to work in my favor or break even very often.

It seems like there should be a way under Product Types to create a "product type drop ship" that would have it's own flat rate shipping. Similar to "product type free shipping". I thought about adding the shipping price to the cost of these products with free shipping, but then it would look like I was charging way too much for the product itself.

I would rather just use flat rate for some products and weight for others.

Or I could use weight based if there was a way to have certain products not be eligible for combined shipping.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am sure I am not the only one that users drop shippers for some products. Somebody must have a good solution for this. I hope so anyway....

I have a similar situation here, and I have put up my minimum freight charge so it is the same as my supplier who ships direct to my clients.

Not without adapting them. Sometimes this is simple, sometimes not. There is info on porting osC mods in the tutorials and the wiki.
