    Default Slooooow Site

This is my first post this site. I have read several of the threads and found there to be some people much more intelligent than myself here.
I had my host installed zc 1.3.8
I installed the free watermelon template and the category flyover add on.
I changed some of the pictures to customize for this site.

    suggestiveunmentionables.com

I am also the webmaster for rhiannonsrubbercloset.com which is hosted by the same host company.
The only difference between these two sites is one is running 1.3.7 and the other is 1.3.8.

Suggestive unmentionables taks twice as long to load as the other site. When you select a product it seems to take a long time to load that product as well.

    Things I have done:
I did all of the things recommended in the frequently asked questions for speeding up the site in the admin panel.
I removed the category flyover add on.
I have talked to my hosting company.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mainly because your images are too big (file size) by a factor of 100 or so. The animated gif in the center column alone is almost 1Mb.

Check the Free Software Add Ons for Image Handler 2.

I found that both sites loaded quite fast. There was a brief (2 seconds, perhaps) moment of blankness -- probably related to DNS look-up delays -- then the page loaded in a second or so.

Some of your thumbnails are still too big. Any time you see a thumbnail image loading from top to bottom it's way too big. They should just blip into place like magic.

I'm running a windows server 2003, zen cart tanks when it tries to load multiple images, even though my multiple images are 5k in size! Go figure.. i think it has to do with the dynamic ability to check and see which images exist. Maybe linux is faster at this. Try deleting multiple images, thumbs and large, so you only have1 image per product to see if that's the case.

Idea or Suggestion Re: Slooooow Site

I figured this out the hard way..

Using multiple images and have over 3000 images in a directory?

You will experience slower load times... try putting 10,000 images in a directory and you'll see what I mean..

Once I moved images to their own folders, under 5000, i was able to see some significant speed increases.

If anyone is using multiple images and is experiencing slow load times in zen cart and you're banging your head against the wall, this is the probably the solution for you.
