help question css GET request causing 404 errors

i am running 1.3.8a and have customized the template using the override system. i have been noticing some 404 errors turning up in my server log but didn't think a whole lot about it until i started analyzing my logs.

wow. in march i had 2376 404 errors and i am not sure how this is happening. here is a sample entry from my log...

    Code:
    56.234.133.28 - - [01/Mar/2009:00:26:19 -0500] "GET /includes/templates/mine/css/none HTTP/1.1" 404 230 "http://www.orchidlakecandles.com/"
i've viewed the source of my store's home page and cannot figure out where this bogus directory is being called from.

so far for april i have already had more than 700 of these 404 errors filling up my log.

can anybody shed any light on this? why is this happening? more of an annoyance than anything...

    That IP is the following

    Code:
56.234.133.28	US	UNITED STATES NORTH CAROLINA	RALEIGH	UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE
Don't know why you are getting that error but do you have the USPS shipping enabled??

sorry about that... my site is http://www.orchidlakecandles.com

the IP address is random. it happens when i hit my own site (my IP is pulling the 404 error as well) but it doesn't seem to affect anything as far as viewing my store... like i mentioned, i think it is more of an annoyance thing on my end that so many 404s are being trapped.

i've been able to narrow it down to an IMG... i went to websiteoptimization.com and analyzed my site. apparently there are 5 instances of a CSS IMG object being called from the page and it refers to http://www.orchidlakecandles.com/inc.../mine/css/none as the URL. here is a snippet of the analysis results...

    Code:
    QTY SIZE# TYPE URL COMMENTS
    1 47728 IMG http://www.orchidlakecandles.com/inc...es/drawing.jpg Header size = 255 bytes
    1 33004 IMG http://www.orchidlakecandles.com/inc...ages/logob.jpg Header size = 255 bytes
    1 30039 FLASH http://www.wendyzak.com/poll/poll.swf Header size = 274 bytes
    1 15224 CSS http://www.orchidlakecandles.com/inc...stylesheet.css Header size = 253 bytes
    1 8325 SCRIPT http://seal.godaddy.com/getSeal Header size = 310 bytes
    1 6320 HTML http://www.orchidlakecandles.com Header size = 490 bytes
5 Not found CSS IMG http://www.orchidlakecandles.com/inc.../mine/css/none Header size = 159 bytes

but i am still stumped as to what images are being called...

i got it. i found the problem. apparently, it doesn't like it when you leave a CSS object "background: url (none)" in your CSS file. i removed one of the instances of "background: url (none)" and the page analyzer count went from 5 to 4. now to remove the other 4...

    Code:
    background: url (none);
If there is to be none...why even type the above???
Just do not specify any background

i put the code in there to test with and without images while customizing. instead of removing the reference altogether, i simply made it none to keep it there as a placeholder... and then forgot to remove it. =)
