Default module to take your Zen Cart store mobile

It's a pretty straightforward module, it gets your foot in the door with the mobile side of things.

You can read the PDF guide here: branninggroup.com/Branning_Group_Zen_Cart_Mobile.pdf

All comments, suggestions, and feature requests are welcome.

I'm attempting to upload it as a contribution, I'll update this post once/if that happens.

So, all this module does is detect whether the visitor is coming from a mobile device, and forces them to be redirected to another page as a result?

It gives you a mobile home page; so now all users accessing your web site from a mobile phone will see a mobile-compatible web page. This page is easily editable using the Define Pages editor, and may save you a customer. Most web sites are not mobile-friendly, this module redirects your visitors to a page they can easily read.

The store owner could put a phone number on the mobile page to allow the visitor a quick way to get in touch with the store, a simple email form, etc. The point of the module is that now visitors using a cell phone (or other mobile device) will see a page customized to them and not have to suffer through trying to see your store home page on their tiny screens.

OK. So, it doesn't do anything to actually make your store work differently when viewed on a mobile device, other than redirecting them to an info page that could contain text/links/forms/etc.

As an aside, I notice that your coding requires that the webserver has PHP short-tags enabled ... which is not a default setting on most servers anymore. I might suggest that a future revision be altered so that it doesn't utilize short tags.

Thanks for the tip, I'll modify the code now. :)

Wouldn't most mobile users be using something like Opera mobile on their phone or have a special browser which allows them to at least view a site albeit in simple mode.

No, the large majority of Internet users still use the stripped-down browser on their phone. If the visitor is using Opera mobile or an iPhone the full site loads.

Do you have a reference or any statistics to support this? I appreciate the comment, however it would be much more helpful if you could define "large majority"
