perweightunit explained ??

Can someone please point me to an explanation of the perweightunit shipping module and how it should be configured. I'm a little slow and the FAQ docs don't really do it for me.

I have 20 prods each with weight expressed as a fraction of a pound (e.g., 0.9 lbs). By default (based on my zip codes), I'm getting $3.90 to ship an item that weighs 0.9 lbs and I need to understand how that is calculated.

Per Unit perweightunit is using the Product Weight products_weight and the Attribute Weight products_attributes_weight as the Shipping Cost ...

To do this, you need to set in the Configuration ... Shipping/Packaging ... that the Maximum Weight is 5000 and the two Tare settings to 0:0 ...
