Default Subtracting tax from a set price: how do I do tax-included pricing?

All of the info I have read on taxes in both the Help section, this forum, and the Zen Cart manual assumes that you start with a Net price and then add tax to it to get the Gross price. I have got that system working without any major worries.

What I would like to do is the opposite. I would like to be able to set the Gross price, including GST, and then have the system calculate the GST as a percentage of that price and record it on the invoice.

    EG

If an item has a displayed price of say $100, the actual price is $90 plus $10 GST

The point is that I want to be able to set the total price the customer will pay and have the Zen Cart system calculate the GST and show that on the invoice. I don't want to have to try to work backwards and try to figure out what amount to charge so that the price the customer sees is the actual price I want him to pay.

Is there any way this can be done?

    G'day guys,

So far, 66 views to my question.

    Replies none!

Do I need to rephrase the question? Is it too hard?

I would have thought it would be a reasonably logical thing to do. After all, we want to be able to set our prices for marketing purposes?

    Thanks

I've helped a couple UK and Australian shops who had tax-in prices.
All they did was enter the Gross price, and the admin page auto-calculated the Net price, and stored that gross price in the database. Then whenever the price was displayed on the store, the correct tax-in (Gross) price was properly shown.
Since it's a built-in feature, it worked really easy for them.

In the US, I only use the Net price myself, and that Gross price field is useless to me. But I guess for stores in those other countries its useful.
