    for example on this page , there are 8 products listed and to view the rest the visitor has to click "Next " for next page. I want to show up to 16 products per page.

    admin/configuration/Maximum Values/Products Listing- Number Per Page

    There's lots of values in the Maximum Values page that are worth setting to your own requirements....
