Applying free shipping to larger quantities of specific items

Hi, this is my first post here. I apologize if this has already been answered, but after searching for quite some time, I have not found an answer. I am using zen v1.3.8 and I'm trying to find a way to make shipping a flat rate for all of the items in my store, and make several of those items qualify for free shipping after an "x" amount such as "12" is in the shopping cart while the rest stay at the flat rate regardless of the quantity.

Example:

Item A x 1 = Flat Rate
Item B x 1 = Flat Rate

And in larger quantities:

Item A x 12 = Flat Rate (same as before)
Item B x 12 = Free Shipping

Any help on this matter would be much appreciated!

You would need to write a customized shipping module that can set the flat rate based on quantity on a per product level ...

At this time, this is not built into Zen Cart ...

If you never use the Product Weight, then the products_weight field might be used in this custom shipping module to determine at what quantity is the shipping free ...
