Isn't the point of having redundant data centers and multiple data lines etc, so that if one center fails (fire, power loss, data loss whatever) the others automatically take over.

Clearly authorize.net is not as well prepared as they should be. For a company of their size.

Sometimes -sh*t happens - and YOU need to be prepared. Hosts go down, the lights go out, floods strike, fires start - whatever it is that caused the problem, it affects YOUR business and if you can't take payments it costs YOU money. BE PREPARED!

There is word that they are now back in the building and starting their back up plan. They made a statement that they should be running by 1pm EST. We have flipped on our Google Check out and Pay Pal in the mean time. It is a wise idea to always have a back up processor for cases like these.

Default Authorize.net is down. What do you do?

As some of you may already know, Authorize.net has been down for several hours today.

What can you do in the mean time?

One suggestion is to install the Ceon manual processing module temporarily. This way your customers will be able to process an order "normally" on their end and you can call in for a credit card authorization manually to allow you to ship their order now, finalizing it later when Authorize.net is up and running again.

Would love to know where you've learned about this.

There are numerous other message boards reporting this.

I also spoke with our merchant support services (Pivitol Payments) and they recieved word as well. As in everything, this information is very early.

If anyone needs some quick code to throw up on a wide banner to alert customers about the outage and instruct them to use alternative payment methods here you go. Modify it as you need to:

<h1><marquee behavior="up">Attention, our regular credit card processor is down. Please use Google Check out to place all orders.</marquee></h1>

You can see an example of it here:

You should always have an emergency plan. If a processor is down you should disable that payment module and have an alternative way to pay for purchases. Either with a different processor or using a different method.

Default Authorize.net confirmed what has been reported by users in the last several hours.

Authorize.net confirmed what has been reported by users in the last several hours.

Authorize.net has issued a statement saying: ” We are down due to a fire at our primary data center in Seattle. We are working to restore services, but no ETA at this time. We apologize for this disruption and ask for your patience as we work with the team at our data center to restore service. The backup data center was impacted too. Don't have info as to why. The team is solely focused on getting us back up for now.”
