server will not relay "non-local" mesages -- XAMPP & Mercury

I have installed XAMPP and setup Mercury mail server. I followed the instructions in the manual, but when I send test emails I get an error message that says something about the server will not relay "non-local" mesages. What does this mean and how can I fix it.

This is caused by a misconfiguration in your MERCURY.INI file. What is the XAMPP version you installed?

i got same problem.

The latest XAMPP version is v1.7.2 (which uses PHP 5.3) and is not compatible with Zen Cart 1.3.8a and below.

The Mercury for some later versions of XAMPP other than that covered in the book do require extra configurations to work properly.

To re-check your XAMPP version. Start your Apache in XAMPP Control Panel and then go to your web browser and type in the web address http://localhost/xampp. Your XAMPP version should be displayed prominently near the top of the page.
