Default Increasing the option comments length

I need to make the length of my option comments longer to better explain them. After searching through the forums, I've seen this answer a couple of times:

In the database table products_options there is a field defined as:
    products_options_comment varchar(64)
The thing is, I'm not sure where the database tables are...

Is this something in the admin, or do I have to login to my cPanel through my host? The latter seems a little excessive.

Can someone give me idiot-proof instructions to find the correct way to fix this? Thanks.

You'll need to log in to CPanel to do that (not sure why that's 'excessive').

Under 'Databases' in CPanel, one option is phpMyAdmin. Click that, select the database you want to change from the list (if you have more than one) and follow the directions from the other post. Most people would warn you to back up the database first, and that's probably good advice.

    Got it! Thanks.

As a front-end guy it's always a little unnerving to have to login and mess with stuff like this. Since everything I've done on the site thus far has been a matter of changing either a .php file or a setting on the admin, it just seemed a little strange to have to have to do that. I see now that it's not, but from reading the responses of the past answers to this question, I wasn't alone in thinking this way.

    Thanks again.

Does it usually take a while for the change to take place? I made the change to the sql and nothing has happened yet- but my provider only seems to do an update twice a day. could this be why it is not changing?

I don't know about that, but are you expecting previously-entered comments to show up full length? That won't happen, as they were cut short when entered into the database. New comments should be able to be longer. Have you tried this yet?
