Default Using a cloned shipping module

I'm new to ZenCart and to shopping carts. My brother is a programmer and is helping me to configure a website for an online store. In the forums, we read about cloning a shipping module so that a different amount can be charged for s&h for each individual item. That being done, I don't know how to activate this new module. I don't want to use any of the standard modules and thus have them turned off. On my test site, I am unable to get to the checkout page because I don't have any shipping modules installed. How can I use the module that he has built?

Not sure what he built ... but usually, the shipping modules have two parts, the code:
    /includes/modules/shipping/yourshippingmodule.php

    and the language file:
    /includes/languages/english/modules/shipping/yourshippingmodule.php

help question Re: Using a cloned shipping module

This is the brother of the original poster. I created
includes/modules/shipping/sandhperitem.php and the language file includes/languages/english/modules/shipping/sandhperitem.php.

I can't get the module to show up in the Admin/Modules/Shipping page, so that it might be selected.

When you go to the Modules ... Shipping ... do you see the right panel for editing?

Do you see the last line beneath all of the modules that reads something like:
    Module Directory: /home/yourusername/public_html/yourdirectory/includes/modules/shipping/
If not, try reloading the files again to the server ...
