Mass Edit Description - Trying to fix products getting excluded from Google feeds

I need to replace all the exclamation points (!) in my product descriptions with periods(.) They are causing the products to be excluded from my Google product feed.

I found this script example:

update TABLE_NAME set FIELD_NAME = replace(FIELD_NAME, ‘find this string’, ‘replace found string with this string’);

I don't know anything about this sort of thing so I have been unable to apply to example script to the data base.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to mass edit (find replace) single characters in the product descriptions?

First make a backup of your DB

Then export the product description table uncompressed

Open in a plain text or code editor and replace the "!" with a "."

Don't select the all option and approve each replacement to prevent replacing any that are not in a description

Save and replace the table with this edited one

Do a proper export
